Analisys of a marine loading arm
Structural analysis of a damaged marine loading arm. A marine loading arm, also known as a mechanical loading arm, loading arm, or MLA is a device consisting of articulated steel pipes that connect a tank ship such as an oil tanker or chemical tanker to a cargo terminal. Generic trademarks such as Chiksan (often misspelled Chicksan) are often used to refer to marine loading arms regardless of their manufacturer.
My work has consisted in taking the measures of the damaged arm, building a 3d model and performing a FEM analysis to identify the best repairing solution. Analysis and modelling have been performed using SolidWorks.
